Business Leaders Program

Through the Business Leaders Program, National Industries for the Blind (NIB) will expand the universe of career choices for people who are blind through its network of nonprofit businesses.  Launched in 2003, the unique Business Leaders Program is designed specifically to prepare individuals who are blind for careers in business and provides educational and employment opportunities needed to transform high-potential employees into capable leaders and successful business people. To that end, NIB offers:

  • Fellowship For Leadership Development
This is a two-year salaried, rotational program with opportunity to work in up to three different locations within the NIB network of associated agencies.  Fellows enter a rigorous, on-the-job developmental program to sharpen their business management and leadership competence, as well as participate in the Business Management Training track.

  • Business Management Training
This track offers qualified employees from NIB and NIB associated agencies the opportunity to pursue business skill development through a customized certificate program developed by the University of Virginia’s Darden Graduate School of Business Administration.  Participants attend five, intensive week-long sessions focusing on management, finance, marketing, production, human resources and leadership.

  • Leaders At All Levels
This on-site training is offered to NIB-associated agencies, providing easy-to-deliver modules that focus on fundamental leadership qualities that affect overall workplace effectiveness.   The topics include teamwork, individual development, change management, problem solving and communications.
